It's a new year and with a new year, means new goals!
I know, I know, 2020 was a hard one on everyone. But if there is one thing I can say, it is that dwelling about the past will get you no where. With that being said, I challenge you to look forward on a brighter and healthier new year and set aside some time to set goals and visions for your future.
My favorite way to set a goal is to really break down that goal into a format known as "S.M.A.R.T. Goals." It is easy to just say "I want to loose weight," but if the goal isn't defined, it is much more difficult to obtain. Breaking down a goal and creating a roadmap to achieve that goal will help a goal become more obtainable.
Lets talk S.M.A.R.T. GOAL SETTING
I think it’s super important that you never lose focus on the tried and true basics. So today let’s talk about how to break down our goals into little bitty obtainable goals. This is the same style of goal setting we take when setting our goals in our upcoming 6 Week New Year Body Makeover Program.
SMART is just an acronym for
SPECIFIC.
MEASURABLE.
ATTAINABLE.
REALISTIC.
TIMELY.
When goal setting and breaking down your goals you need to ask yourself, "is this a SMART Goal?" We must charge ahead with precision and focus. So let’s do this.
SPECIFIC- This can also stand for “small” but what it really means is you need to have a clear vision of what it will take to accomplish your goal. So for instance, say your Goal right now is to loose weight. Lets break that down. What should your diet look like? We can make this specific by setting a calorie goal to hit daily. We can even set specific days we must work out in one week to help achieve our goal, say 3 days a week Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Setting more specifics to your goal will give you the clear vision you need to be as successful as possible.
MEASURABLE- You need to set a time on tasks and ultimate goal to track for progress. Pull your Calendar out and put your end goal and smaller goals along the way for the rest of the year. Say down 3 inches by the end May. Loose 2% body fat by June. Also write down your tasks on the calendar and mark them off as you accomplish them.
ATTAINABLE- To ensure you are setting a goal that is attainable it is important to develop the necessary attitude and determination that you can do this. That you can accomplish whatever you put your mind to for the rest of this year. By breaking down your goal in the previous steps you should have an attainable goal by simply accomplishing each step necessary to get there. Also, at RAW, our coaches will happily sit down with you and help you choose a goal that is attainable for you and your lifestyle. There is nothing like setting a goal that just isn't realistic for you, feeling like you "failed," and causing you to give up. We want to see you succeed!
REALISTIC-This is a hard one for me because I have accomplished some pretty unrealistic goals all because I set my mind to it and didn’t stop until I made it happen. But what this simply means is you can DREAM BIG but make sure that you have all of the above SMA (Smart, Measurable, Attainable) intact too. Are you thinking realistically, meaning, are you REALLY going to take the steps necessary to reach your desired goal or are you just fluffing yourself up therefore setting unrealistic expectations? Really dig deep to see if you are telling yourself the truth.
TIMELY- This means tied to a deadline.
I always say set monthly, quarterly and year goals. Make it your deadline for whatever you want and them give yourself deadlines for all of the little tasks leading up to the big goal.
Whatever you are trying to achieve, you need to go through and dissect it using the SMART Goal method.
I challenge y’all today (or whenever your plan is set for) to put pen to paper and write out and break down your goals.
