Fitness Is Not One Size Fits All

Welcome to the latest buzz in the health and fitness realm, where the mantra 'not one size fits all' isn't just a saying—it's the secret sauce to a sustainable lifestyle change. Our dynamic duo, Brooke and Danny, host an engaging podcast episode that dives deep into the personalized world of fitness.

In this episode, our hosts unpack the truth behind successful, long-term health and fitness. They emphasize that while the journey is unique for everyone, there are three essential pillars that everyone needs to stand firm on: fitness, nutrition, and accountability.

Let's break it down, shall we? Fitness is not just about hitting the gym or clocking miles on the treadmill. It's about finding activities that you genuinely enjoy and that suit your body type, schedule, and goals. Brooke and Danny share their own fitness adventures and mishaps, making it relatable and real.

Nutrition, the second pillar, is the fuel for your fitness engine. But don't expect a one-diet-fits-all spiel here. Our hosts discuss how eating habits need to be tailored to individual needs, tastes, and lifestyles. They offer tips on how to create a balanced diet that's both satisfying and nutritious, without feeling like you're on a never-ending diet.

Lastly, accountability, the glue that holds it all together. Without accountability, the best-laid plans can quickly fall by the wayside. Brooke and Danny chat about the power of having a support system, setting realistic goals, and keeping track of your progress.

What's up, everybody. Welcome back to another week of Confidently Flawed. Brooke and Dani, your hosts here. And, you know, I was just thinking and I was just spending some time, honestly, like scrolling, like we talked about a couple of weeks ago. You know, we love our scroll here and there. And I was just seeing recommendations, just like blanket recommendations of like fitness people recommending this diet and recommending this type of workout.

And I think we've talked about it a little bit on this show, but It just kind of got me to thinking of, you know, not everybody is the same. Not everyone fits into the same box of here's the diet plan that's going to work for you. Here's the workouts that are going to work for you. And this is going to get you the best results.

We are all different. We all have, you know, different stressors. We all have different lifestyles. We all have different, let's say food intolerances or food issues. We all have different body structures. And so I think it's so hard. To be able to know what works and what doesn't work for you because everyone is so different and it just kind of got me to thinking, you know, Danny, obviously you are a gym owner.

You're a fitness professional. You work with hundreds of people, thousands of people in just their health and wellness. And I guess I just wonder how, how do you tailor, tailor people's plans and, and just the way they go about whatever their fitness goals may be knowing that everybody is different. Yeah, great question, Brooke.

And it's, to your point, it's not a one size fits all, and that's, that's the key. And we get people that, that inquire about RAW, you know, we get hundreds every single month. And, you know, one of the biggest questions are like, you know, what's, what's this program about? Or, you know, questions about like a program and we tell them like we can't, it's hard to give us like give you an exact answer because everything that we do starts with what we call the initial coaching session, which is just like you and I sitting down having this conversation and it might be a 20, 30 minute conversation where me as a coach can get to know as much about the person in front of me as possible.

And then I can like, prescribe the best plan from there, right? So it's not a one size fits all, but I will say the, the basics are going to be somewhat similar, right? Everybody, no matter what your goal is, if you want to live a healthier and happier life, you're going to need to do some type of fitness.

Now don't get caught up in the word fitness because that You know, if I'm a farmer and I'm literally slaving away and picking up bales of hay and, and like doing all these things, these heavy manual labor that I'm physically active a ton, kind of like what we used to always do in our ancestors, right? We were a lot more physically active with, with what we did on a daily basis, like you might not need fitness in terms, in a sense of like, you need to go to a gym.

but you're still getting fitness by getting movement in and strength training with, you know, what you're doing for your, your everyday living. Right? So fitness is, is, uh, uh, it's a broad spectrum, but it just essentially means everybody needs to be getting movement in and generally some form of like resistance training or getting your heart rate up or a combination of those.

Right? So it's, It's not that it's the same modality for everybody, but it's, you're still doing the same thing. You're getting some form of improving your body through physical exercise. The second piece is nutrition, right? Everybody, if you want to live a healthier and happier life, are going to have to have some focused on your nutrition.

Now I could have a vegetarian in front of me. I could have somebody that likes to do keto. I could have somebody that's trying to lose weight. I could have somebody that's trying to build muscle. It could be vastly different, right? On what they're doing or how they're going about it. But regardless of what you're trying to do, even if you're just trying to be healthy, you still need to have some structure with your eating in some capacity, right?

So, Those are still the same for everybody in terms of like something that you need to focus on. And This is something that isn't for everybody, but it is for a majority is the accountability piece, right? Most people, if you're struggling with your health and fitness, you probably need some form of just accountability in your life, right?

you know, you need to find a way to follow through. And a lot of the times that just comes from support and accountability, holding you accountable until it becomes an internal habit. And then you're more likely to do it, right? You see those some people that are highly motivated that do it on their own, things like that.

I'll tell you what, it's very far and few between that that's actually there. But you know, like look at it for the, for example, like planet fitness, the average, you know, gym, uh, planet fitness, I think has about 10, 000 members on average, only about a hundred, a hundred to 200 show up. So like that shows you right there, the other 9, 900 need accountability in order to actually show up.

Right. So the percentage is most people need accountability, not everybody, but most people will need. of fitness, nutrition and accountability. And yes, shameless plug. That's what we do here at Ross. We provide those three things because we know that's what people need. And if we only provided one of those things, they would just keep running in circles like they always do and not getting to the goals that they want and living that healthier, happier life because they're missing one of those three pillars, we call them, you know, but to get back to the point is As I kind of already alluded to like it still could be vastly different, you know what I mean?

so it really comes down to just kind of like with goal setting is Sitting down and saying, what is it that I really want to accomplish and why and then just reverse engineer backwards. What would that version of myself do? What would I currently have to do or change in order to get there? Right? And then just start doing those things, you know, whether that's, um, you know, if you are, you know, Competing to be an Olympian.

I highly doubt any Olympians are listening to this, but who knows if you are Good luck this year. Right. But it's, you know, your, your training modality and eating and accountability is gonna be different than. Sally, who's 55 years old, you know, has struggled with her weight all her life and just need some accountability or support or nutrition to finally get there.

Right. So it's, it's going to look a lot different. And if they both came into the same gym, their workouts are going to be different, right? They're, they're how they're going about their, their, their training, how they're going about how many sets they're doing, their reps and different things. There is different, but it really starts with having a goal, having it, having an end outcome that you're trying to do, right.

What are the processes or the habits to get there? Like, what would that version of yourself be doing on a consistent basis? And then just reverse engineering backwards. Now, most people don't have the education to do that. And that's where a coach comes in, right? That's where, again, shameless plug, but it doesn't even have to be through us, but that's where you hire somebody that's a professional and what you're trying to accomplish to speed up the process, to ensure that you actually get there and do it in the right way and not waste your time.

Does that make sense? Oh, it makes total sense. And I totally agree with that because You know, I think it's it's really sad and heartbreaking looking at and I I first want to say I commend all of the people on social media trying to build a business and trying to do their thing. Like I commend that so much, but I think with health and fitness, it's just not a one size fit all method.

And, and especially with social media, you see the, the glam, you see the positives and people aren't normally showing like the, the hearts, the negatives and the, I guess, bad results you could say, but I'm seeing all too often on social media, fitness influencers selling their. Guide to losing 30 pounds or selling their workout program That's going to guarantee they have this like super juicy booty for the summer and while yes, it might work and like I agree with you in the sense of Something in a way is going to be better than nothing and it's going to kind of be similar but But everybody is different.

And if you are someone who's listening to this, who's feel like you've been trying all the things online or trying all the guides or the recommendations, and you're just not getting the results, it's not a fault to you. It's not that you're doing anything wrong, but maybe what you're doing. isn't right for you.

And I think that's why it's so important to hire somebody and hire somebody who is a professional who can give you those tips, who can give you those tricks and who can work around your schedule, work around your life, work around the way you feel, work around the way your body feels, and be able to Fit something to you and not just a generic one size fits all.

And like you said about Planet Fitness, that is crazy to think about, but it is true. It goes to show why accountability goes such a long way. Yeah, it's, it's, it's critical, Brooke. And, you know, we talked about it a couple of months ago on one of our episodes of like, you know, the, the analogy of like getting your kids to brush your teeth, right?

Is like, it's a pain in the butt. They don't want to do it. But eventually that external accountability turns into an internal habit. It's the same concept where with, with health and fitness is when you have the accountability, you're more likely to follow through, which then in turns, it becomes just part of who you are then.

Right. And that's what most people are looking for. Literally, I've, I've, yeah. 20 to 30 conversations every single week of people coming in and majority of them, that's what they say. They just want it to be a part of their lifestyle. They want it to be a part of who they are. And that stems from having accountability in order to get there.

And the reason it hasn't worked in the past is because we haven't had accountability in order to get there. Right. So, you know, that's, that's going to be key for a lot of people, but it's, you know, if I sit down with somebody My recommended solution is always different, right? Some people, it might be our six week jumpstart program that kind of gets them started, gets them like the majority of the results that they need, and then they're a little bit more self sufficient, and they just continue with us with, you know, some workouts, some accountability, things like that.

Other people, they might need, More one on one hands on where they might do private training, right? And they do the accountability within that some people just heavily like they got their workouts under control They just really need help with the nutrition So we're heavily focused on nutrition or you know, some people just need guidance for a long period of time so they might do like our VIP six month program that guarantees you lose 50 pounds like it's it's Everybody's uniquely different on where they're at.

That's, but, and that's where it's hard to say, like, it's exactly X, Y, or Z. But as long as you're, you have a goal and objective, and then a plan on how to get there. with something fitness, something nutrition in some way to hold yourself accountable is that is how you attain your health and fitness goals.

And, you know, obviously, we'd love to help you guys out there. If you're listening and you're struggling with that, that is what we do. That is what we specialize in is getting results, right? But it's It's not a one size fits all, so I highly encourage, you know, if you really are serious about making a change or making a transformation in your health and wellness, is hire somebody to help you, right?

Because that's, I know for me, I know nothing about cars, right? I wish I did. Actually, I don't really care to know, to be honest. But, you know, if, uh, you know, if my car breaks down, I'm not gonna fix it. I'm not gonna try to fix it, right? I'm gonna hire a professional like so using the analogy of like accountability or support if I'm like, you know what?

I'm gonna save some money and I'm going to I'm gonna go fix my car But then I gotta watch all these YouTube videos and then I gotta hope I get I do it and then I gotta buy The parts and I don't do it right now. It's like Two months later and my car's still not fixed and I'm like, well, shoot I should have just hired somebody to do it in the first place, right?

like Hire somebody to help you get from point A to point B in a much more efficient way and help you make the trials and tribulations less, uh, as you're going along, you know, because what you do when you start the journey is going to look different, you know, so if I'm starting a health and wellness journey versus Brooke, our paths might look different.

right? What I have to do or focus on is going to be different than what Brooke has to focus on, right? We're not going to both hit the gym and do the same exact workout all the time, or like the same workout, the same exact nutrition plan, the same exact X, Y, or Z, right? It's going to look a little bit different.

Even if we're doing somewhat of a similar workout. I'm going to choose it. Like if we both had to choose 20 pounds and it's heavy for me, but it's easy for Brooke, well, that means Brooke's not getting what she needs out of it, but I am, you know what I mean? So having just somebody there to guide you is just really important when it comes to finding out how to do this and do it in the right way.

I couldn't agree more. I mean, even just in the conversation that I know I've had so many times on this show of women's and hormones and like their cycles and all of that. And you know, you can't sit there and go, okay, Danny's workouts are going to be the same as mine because we are just literally completely different mentally, physically.

I mean, all of it. So there's so much to take away from this. And while we are not sitting here to just like shameless blog, you know, raw, but in a way we just want to encourage you to. To find accountability, especially if you're feeling like you are just not getting the answers that you want, or you're not getting the results that you want, it could just very well be as simple as you don't have that accountability from a professional who's able to be able to tear and veer, uh, you know, a, a.

A model of, let's say a workout plan or a nutritional plan or whatever, a supplement plan to tailor your lifestyle, to tailor your body, to tailor your loves your disloves. Because I think that's another whole thing in the sense of, you know, you might be someone who can't go without guacamole and if you give a plan that has no guacamole, you might not be successful.

So also just finding a way to make a supplement plan. you get the best result. So lots of takeaway from here, guys. Hope you took away some good tips and tricks. If you have any questions, as always feel free to let us know and feel free to share this with anybody who you feel would resonate with this show.

We truly appreciate it. We're just here to share you the secret secret sauce week after week. So thanks for tuning in and we'll be back next week with another episode of competently flawed.
